Ed Wood's great season has seen him confirmed as winner of the Lanarkshire County Order of Merit with a record breaking 100 points.

Starting with back-to-back victories in the Cadzow Cup at Hamilton and the Lanarkshire County Championship at Colville Park, his record breaking score of 65 and 68 at Hamilton and two rounds of 67 and 70 at Colville Park put him way out in front in the Lanarkshire Order of Merit.

His season going well, he reached the fourth round of the Allied Surveyors Scottish Amateur Championship at Royal Troon and continued his good form into the 72-hole Newlands Trophy at Lanark Golf Club where he finished second to Mark Bookless with scores of 70, 70, 71 and 69.

These scores cemented Ed's place at the top of the Lanarkshire Order of Merit for 2009 with a record number of points.

Ed's handicap for the season has come down from 0.4 to +1.4 and he is hoping for a further reduction at Carluke this coming Sunday in the inaugural 36-hole Lanarkshire "Champion of Champions" tournament for club champions and winners of major Lanarkshire events this year.

And he is hoping to win a few points for Lanarkshire at Crail in the Scottish men's area team finals over the weekend of 3rd and 4th October having played his part in helping Lanarkshire qualify with a 100% record.

When asked about his recent form Ed’s response was “I’ve been working really hard on my game since the season started, but I’m only able to do this due to the excellent facilities at Crow Wood.  The practice area allows you to work on your long game, and coupled with several excellent short game areas, my all round game has improved immensely.  Playing on a well conditioned golf course every week makes a massive difference.”

Also continuing his great form this year is Junior Captain Jordan Gallagher, who recorded a 4&3 victory over his Ranfurly Castle opponent, helping Lanarkshire to victory in the West Boys League.
